Education

Dr. Jessica Sparrow is a doctorally-prepared, board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with eight years of intensive academic training. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Charleston Southern University, followed by a Master’s degree from UNC–Chapel Hill, where she completed two years of specialized nurse practitioner training focused exclusively on psychiatric mental health. She went on to achieve the highest academic honor in nursing, a Doctor of Nursing Practice, from UNC–Chapel Hill.

Experience

Jessica’s career began in high-intensity environments, working in the ICU and at the historic Dorothea Dix Hospital on acute male and female psychiatric units. There, she developed a deep passion for partnering with patients to restore and protect their mental health. Determined to extend that care beyond the hospital walls, she pursued advanced degrees as both a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Doctor of Nursing Practice.

Her work has spanned underserved outpatient clinics treating severe and persistent mental illness, and leadership as the Director of Nursing Practice for the North Carolina Nurses Association, positions that honed both her clinical expertise and her influence in shaping mental health care statewide.

After earning her doctorate, Jessica founded Sparrow Behavioral Health to offer the kind of personalized, flexible, and forward-thinking care she believes every patient deserves. The practice has since grown to include a second location in Charlotte, NC.

Beyond the Clinic

When she’s not with patients, Jessica is often traveling with her family, playing tennis, cheering on the Tar Heels, or catching live music with friends. Known for her clinical expertise, forward-thinking approach, and down-to-earth personality, she’s built lasting connections with patients and colleagues alike.
