Jessica Sparrow

DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC

Education

As a doctorally-prepared  and board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) Jessica has eight years of educational training. She earned a bachelors degree in nursing science from Charleston Southern University, a masters degree from UNC-Chapel Hill where she received two years of nurse practitioner training exclusively focused on psychiatric mental health, and a doctorate of nursing practice from UNC, the highest educational training one can achieve in the profession of nursing.

Experience

Early in her nursing career, Jessica worked in the ICU and as a psychiatric nurse at Dorothea Dix Hospital on the acute male and female units. This is where she developed a heart to partner with patients to improve their mental health.

With a desire to help patients outside of the hospital setting, Jessica went back to school to earn degrees as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice. Having worked in an outpatient clinic seeing those under-served with severe and persistent mental illness as well as working at the North Carolina Nurses Association as their Director of Nursing Practice, Jessica has extensive training and vast experience in the mental health field.

Upon completion of her doctoral degree, Jessica opened Sparrow Behavioral Health to gain flexibility in the care that she provides her patients. The practice recently expanded to open a second location in Charlotte, NC.

When Jessica isn’t seeing patients, she enjoys traveling with her family, playing tennis, rooting for the Tar Heels, and live music with friends.
